Traditionally Olde English Textura Quadrata with clearly calligraphic roots, this face is a sure hit where antiquity needs immediacy too. The rhythm of the text is varied by differing terminals on verticals, according to the position in the letter; initial and medial vertical strokes have diamond feet, while final strokes have diamonds with terminal serifs to extend to the next letter. The effect is like that of pen-made text where the hand swings from letter to letter in a flowing motion. For a full-service scriptorium, there is a complementary font with Lombardic versal majuscules, border parts, ligatures, and ornaments. |
